We are an advocate organization operated exclusively to promote the social welfare of Washington Soldiers and Airmen and their families. As a non-profit, seperate from the WA Military Department, NGAW is a lobbying force, focused on securing the most effective legislation to maximize Washington State Army and Air Guardsmen benefits and resources.

Jan. 2026 – Regarding employer Leave Authorization for State Active Duty

May 2025 – resolution in opposition to the proposed changes to federal pensions from the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, specifically the increase in employee contributions to FERS. Resolution was presented at 2025 NGAUS Conference and resolved favorably: the undesirable draft changes to the federal pensions from the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform were dropped.

April 2025 – Washington state should eliminate the income limit for veterans’ real estate tax exemptions.

Nov. 2024 – Regarding implementing a retention incentive for Washington government workers who are also in the National Guard.

2026 Priority Bills

HB 1073 – Creates a Washington National Guard retention program.
HB 1165 – Increases the income thresholds for the property tax exemption program for veterans with disabilities.
HB 2099 – Allows military children who would not normally quality to enroll in the Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program.
SB 5398 – Concerning property tax exemptions for veterans with disabilities.
SB 5954 – Concerning veteran survivor tuition waiver eligibility.

2025 Priority Bills

  • PASSED!  SB 5545 – Modifying provisions regarding licensure for military family childcare providers
  • PASSED!  HB 1102 – Increasing support and services for veterans
  • PASSED!  HB 1106 – Adjusting disability rating requirements to ensure more disabled veterans are eligible for property tax relief
  • PASSED!  HB 1321 – Concerning the governor’s authority to limit outside militia activities within the state
  • PASSED!  HB 1371 – Concerning parking privileges for veterans.

2024 Priority Bills

  • PASSED!  HB 1943 – Guard Education Grant for spouses and dependent children
  • PASSED!  SB 5803 – Guard Referral & Bonuses
  • PASSED!  HB 1869 – Guard Referral & Bonuses

Our NGAW Legislative Chair and Committee work the resolution process at both the State and Federal levels to determine Association priorities. They propose legislation and work with law makers to gain sponsorship and support. They testify at the State level and share the Call to Action with our membership.
